Laboratory Summary
The Department has 10 well equipped and well maintained laboratories along with 2 additional internet facilities, which possess more than 350 high end PCS with necessary licensed operating system and software. Each lab has licensed softwares necessary to conduct corresponding courses in that lab. The laboratories are maintained by third party for hardware maintenance as well as for regular anti-virus updates. All the labs are well protected with UPS.
The internet facility available for students has 10 mbps dedicated line where they can surf the internet to gather unlimited information and increase their knowledge. The final year students are provided with two dedicated Project Labs having high end desktops for their final year project.
Students may work on different configurations varying from Linux, Windows XP etc. to fulfill their needs of the project. All these labs are well equipped with sufficient number of printers.

1. Data Structure Laboratory
In Data Structures Lab, first semester students learn programming in C, solving problems, developing logic and some data structures. In second semester, students further learn, in data structure course, advanced programming skills, complex algorithms and data structures. Students also do their mini-projects in this lab to link various concepts learnt during the whole semester.

2. Multimedia Laboratory
Multimedia Laboratory is intended for the work related to study of signal processing as well as Object Oriented Programming and Computer Graphics. The programming languages used prominently are – Turbo C / C++ and MATLAB toolbox. In Signal Processing Laboratory, third year computer engineering students acquire hands on experience on basic signal processing algorithms in C and their verification through MATLAB. C programming gives an experience of complexities in developing different signal processing applications, whereas MATLAB provides toolbox to help students to learn tools without going into intricacies of complex algorithms.
The second year engineering students, in Object oriented programming and Computer graphics laboratory, gain the introduction to object oriented programming paradigms. They perform the basic programs using C++. The same laboratory sets up the foundation to the elements of computer graphics. Here they learn to use of computers to display and manipulate information in graphical or pictorial form. To support these software applications high end recourses are provided to them.

3.Computer Networking Laboratory
The Lab is mainly used by TE Computer students. The intention is to learn fundamental concepts related to networking. The students are involved in performing assignments, practical hands on sessions, case studies and mini project.
The lab resources, apart from computer systems, are various networking components (Active & Passive), training kits. Experience of the students is enriched on various aspects like structured cabling, building a small network, voice over IP, Security etc. in this laboratory.

4. Hardware Laboratory I
There are two Hardware Laboratories in the department namely, Hardware Laboratory-I and Hardware Laboratory-II. In Hardware Laboratory-I, the students of Computer Engineering are introduced to the world of microprocessors and microcontrollers. We conduct Hardware Laboratory for the third year Computer Engineering students in the first semester. Learning different aspects of system programming and introduction of Embedded Systems are the key features of Hardware Laboratory course.
In the second semester, we conduct Microprocessor Interfacing Laboratory for the second year Computer Engineering students. As Microprocessor is heart of computer system, learning the architecture and programming of 8086 microprocessor becomes important part of Microprocessor Interfacing Laboratory course. Students also study basic and very simple operating system namely MS-DOS.

5. Hardware Laboratory II
The subjects conducted in Hardware Laboratory-II are Digital Electronics and Logic Design for Second year Computer Engineering students and Embedded System-an elective for final year Computer Engineering students. This laboratory introduces to digital design techniques and basic concepts of VLSI designing to second year students. As Computer Engineering students apply their knowledge to different domains & embedded system is one of the emerging domain whose applications are Mobile systems, Automotive systems etc. This laboratory introduces embedded system design and methodologies with the help of embedded processors along with embedded or real time operating system. We provide the students with embedded system development boards along with Integrated Development Environment (IDE). We also have licensed Red hat Linux 9.0 software for the Linux programming.

6. Project Laboratory I and II
In computer department, we have 2 dedicated Project Labs. The labs are exclusively used by Final year students for their project work. Both these labs consist of computer systems with High End Configuration and relevant licensed software installed on it. All PC’s are provided with the Internet Facility (10 Mbps Link to the college). The machines are also equipped with UPS power back up and antivirus software, as per the demand of the project group (typically consisting of 4 members). The necessary networking hardware and software are provided on need basis. The PC’s are purely allocated to project groups for one year period.
Lab consist of a heterogeneous environment such as operating system platforms like Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Flavors of Red Hat, Suse Linux; different IDE’s like .NET, JAVA, Visual Studio and so on.
Most of the projects are sponsored by leading software companies like TCS, Persistent Systems, Sungard, KPIT Info Systems and C-DAC etc. This helps students to get an exposure to work on live problem and IT work environment.
There is a constant attempt made by the department to provide state of the art resources in the lab to meet the following demands of the project ideas requiring cutting edge technology.

7. Software Laboratory I
Software Lab – I is used for the study of concepts of Relational Database Management System, Visual Programming, Java, J2SDK and LISP etc. In semester 1, Relational Database Management System & Visual Programming Laboratory is conducted here for T. E. Computer Engineering students. It is the combination of Visual Basic programming and Relational Database Management concepts, where the actual implementation and designing of Visual Basic as a front end and Database (Oracle 10g) as a backend is covered.
In semester 2, Software Lab is conducted here for T. E. Computer students. It is designed to learn implementation of Java assignments, LISP and concepts of system programming.
To support these labs, software applications, high end resources are provided. Other common lab equipments include UPS and ample number of printers.

8. Software Laboratory II
The laboratory is well equipped with high end computer systems & peripherals. The licensed softwares installed in the laboratory are: IBM Rational Suit Enterprise, Oracle 10g std. one edition clients and open source softwares such as Eclipse, Apache Tomcat and Prolog.
During the first semester, the laboratory is used to conduct lab work for B. E. Computer Engineering students for the assignments in Object Oriented Modeling and Design, elective subjects such as Artificial Intelligence, Advanced Databases. As a part of Object Oriented Modeling and Design laboratory, students model the software systems using Rational Rose modeling tool. In Artificial Intelligence, students implement the various AI techniques using C and Prolog. In Advanced Databases, the students learn to implement web applications using JSP, Tomcat and XML.
During the second semester, the laboratory is used for conduction of Computer Laboratory II (CL – II) for B. E. Computer Engineering students. Here, as a part of Software Testing and Quality Assurance, students use Rational Test Manager and Rational Robot for creating test plans, recording and playing back the test cases. As a part of CL – II, in Network and Information security, students learn and develop basic algorithms related to security mechanisms. Students understand various security concepts by running simulation on security related kit – “I-Security” which is available in the laboratory.

9. Software Laboratory III
In Software Lab – III students mainly perform elementary assignments in SDTL (T.E. Computers), Computer Lab – 1 (B.E. Computers), Software Architecture (B.E. Computers) and Soft Skills (S.E. Computers) in first as well as second semester.
In semester 1, Computer Lab – 1 is a combination of programming assignments from three final year subjects Principles of Compiler Design, Design & Analysis of Algorithms and Operating systems. In Principles of Compiler Design, students learn to implement various stages of compilation such as Lexical Analysis, Syntax analysis using Lex and YACC on Linux environment provided in this lab.
In Principles of Compiler Design, they learn to implement various algorithmic strategies like divide and conquer, dynamic programming and time and space complexity of given C-programs. ‘Operating systems’ is another core subject. So students here, learn to work in Linux open source operating system environment.
In semester 2, SDTL i.e. Software Development Tools Lab is aimed to make third year students familiar with Java programming using JDK 1.6, Eclipse, and Software Engineering UML deign diagrams in VGO CASE tool.
Software Architecture – this elective offers students an opportunity to study, design of large and complex systems, and hot technologies like j2e, .net etc. Today, IT professionals work in a global setting with international clients and teams distributed geographically. Due to this, Soft Skills have gained importance. In 2nd year, students get an opportunity to enhance their leadership qualities, communication, teamwork or presentation skills here in this lab. The computer based presentation and internet is used here along with other activities like Role play, Group discussions, Yoga, Game playing etc. to develop their soft skills.
Multimedia presentation resources are available here for instructors as well as for students’ presentations which include LCD projector, speakers etc. Other common lab equipments include UPS and ample number of printers.
