Laboratory Information

Laboratory Summary

The Department has 11 well equipped and well maintained laboratories which possess more than 402 high end PCS. Each lab has licensed software’s necessary to conduct corresponding courses in that laboratory. The laboratories are maintained by third party for hardware maintenance. All the laboratories are well protected with centralized UPS or with individual UPS support in their laboratories.

The internet facility available for students has 106 Mbps dedicated line where they can surf the internet to gather unlimited information and increase their knowledge. The final year students are provided with  required resources having high end desktops for their final year project.

Students may work on different configurations varying from Fedora, Windows 07 etc. to fulfill their needs of the project. All these laboratories are well equipped with network printers.

 1.   Data Structure Laboratory

Data Structures Laboratory is used for conducting laboratories for Data Structures and Problem Solving and Object Oriented and Multi-core Programming.

In Semester-I,Data Structures and Problem Solving Laboratory is conducted for Second Year Computer Engineering students. Students learn about Linear and Non Linear Data Structures and their implementation in different programming languages like C++,Java,Python,etc on different platforms like eclipse, etc. Students also implement different applications based on  Linear and Non Linear Data Structures.

In Semester II,  Object Oriented and Multi-core Programming Laboratory is conducted for Second Year Computer Engineering students. Students learn Object Oriented Programming Languages like eclipse

C++,Java,etc. Students implement various features of Object Oriented Languages like Data Hiding,Data Encapsulation, Inheritance ,Polymorphism,etc. They use QT Creator and Eclipse platform  to implement these features of Object Oriented Languages.

To support these laboratories, software applications, high end resources are provided. Other common laboratory equipment’s include centralized UPS and one network printer.

2. Multimedia Laboratory

Multimedia Laboratory is intended for the work related to study of Operating System and Administration, Data Structure and Problem Solving and Programming laboratory. In Operating System and Administration Laboratory students study basic Shell script commands and admin commands. Learn different Linux commands by using different technologies like Python, Perl, Java etc. In  Data Structure and Problem Solving Laboratory Implementation of Linear & Non Linear Data Structures. Implementation of Stacks, Queues, Linked List,Trees, Graphs, Hashing, Files etc. Implementation Of different Sorting Techniques. Understanding Time Complexity Of Algorithm. In  Programming laboratory students learn computer graphics algorithms are implemented using various object oriented languages like   C++, Java, Python and Open Graphics Library (OpenGl). Open source tool – QT Creator is introduced to design a rich GUI for computer graphics programs. Computer Organization concepts such as Booths algorithm and CPU emulator are   implemented.

3.Computer Networking Laboratory

Comp Network lab

Computer Network Laboratory is mainly used by Third Year Computer Engineering students. The intention is to learn fundamental concepts related to forensics and cyber applications, to explore areas like data communication, wireless networks and other networking concepts. Students also learn about digital signal processing applications. The students are involved in performing assignments, practical hands on sessions, case studies related to the mentioned concepts. The laboratory resources, apart from computer systems, are various networking components (Active & Passive), training kits etc. Experience of the students is enriched on various aspects like structured cabling, building a small network, voice over IP, Security,data communication etc. in this laboratory.

4.  Hardware Laboratory I

Hardware Lab

 In Hardware Laboratory-I, the students of Computer Engineering are introduced to the world of microprocessors and Operating System Architecture. We conduct Microprocessor Architecture Laboratory and Operating System Architecture Laboratory for the second year Computer Engineering students in the first semester. Learning different aspects of assembly language programming and introduction of Operating System are the key features of  Microprocessor Architecture Laboratory  and
In the second semester, we conduct Microprocessor Interfacing Laboratory for the second year Computer Engineering students. As Microprocessor is heart of computer system, learning the architecture and programming of 8086 microprocessor becomes important part of Microprocessor Interfacing Laboratory course. Students also study basic and very simple operating system namely MS-DOS.

Hardware :  30 computers with configuration CPU INTEL i3-530 @2.93 Ghz, M/B- DH55TC,4GB RAM,250 GB HDD,CD/DVD ROM-Lg,CPU INTEL i3-2120 @3.30Ghz, M/B- DH6WW,RAM-4GB ,500 GB HDD,CD/DVD ROM-Lg , 8086 kits and all interfacing kits, One Network Printer-Hp Laser jet pro 400 M401dn and all machines on UPS.

5. Hardware Laboratory II

The subjects conducted in Hardware Laboratory-II are Computer Laboratory-I for Final year Computer Engineering students. For the first semester laboratory Assignments are based to cover Image processing concepts like read a image file, histogram calculation, thresholding and segmentation to read a gray scale TIFF image file of a dental digital X-Ray or Medical X Ray and calculate histogram of the image and display histogram of a same image. Implement histogram equalization using with and without Open CV library functions. Implement adaptive thresholding of a gray scale image and compare it with Global thresholding. Perform Image segmentation using watershed segmentation technique.

In the second semester, we conduct Microprocessor Interfacing Laboratory, Programming laboratory, object oriented and multi-core programming language for the second year Computer Engineering students. In Programming Laboratory Computer graphics algorithms are implemented using various object oriented languages like   C++, Java, Python and Open Graphics Library (OpenGl).  Open source tool – QT Creator is introduced to design a rich GUI for computer graphics programs Computer Organization concepts such as Booths algorithm and CPU emulator are   implemented Object oriented programming laboratory, Object oriented concepts are implemented using various object oriented languages like C++, Java and Python. Open source tool – QT Creator is  introduced to design a rich GUI for  C++ programs .Multi threaded programming is  implemented using POSIX APIs  In Microprocessor and interfacing laboratory ,students are able to write assembly language program for 64-bit architecture, TSR program for DOS,  Program for math co-processor.

6. Software Laboratory I

Software Laboratory – I is used for conducting laboratories for Employability Skills Development Laboratory and Programming Laboratory -III

In Semester I, Employability Skills and Development Laboratory is conducted in this laboratory for  third year Computer Engineering students. Students learn about employer’s perspective and practice various technology problem solving techniques, distributed version control systems in this laboratory.  Students also complete a technology case study by understanding customer requirements and applying problem solving techniques.

In Semester II, Programming Laboratory -III for Third Year Computer Engineering, students  perform concurrent, parallel and distributed programming using Openmp, Open-mpi, sbcl, Lex/yacc, Nvidia GPU CUDA. Students learn Embedded Operating System Programming using Beaglebone Black Board and Software Engineering concepts to draw UML diagrams using ArgoUML tool.

To support these laboratories, software applications, high end resources are provided. Other common lab equipment’s include centralized UPS and one network printer.

7.Software Laboratory II

The subjects conducted in Software Laboratory-II are Computer Laboratory II in first semester and Computer Laboratory IV in second semester for Final year Computer Engineering students.

In first semester,  laboratory Assignments are based to cover Smart System Design and Applications concepts like Informed and Uninformed searches, heuristic function calculation for A star algorithm,and Classify the  data through Naive Bayes algorithm to read a CSV file data and clustering the data through K means concept. Implement Unification concept using predicates from  the statements using unify functions. Implement simple Neural network  and implements the Recommendation System using any data system. Perform Online ordering Techniques using android SDK in Pervasive Computing and developing LPG gas pipeline root using shortest path technique in Gamification.

In the second semester, we conduct Computer Laboratory IV  for the Final year Computer Engineering students. In Computer  Laboratory IV students are implemented using various object oriented languages like   C++, Java, Python. Students learn  to develop applications using BIA Technologies. And to develop applications using Mobile Programming Technologies. Students learn to solve problems for multi-core or distributed, concurrent/Parallel environments.

To support these labs, software applications, high end resources are provided. Other common laboratory equipment’s include 3 KVA UPS and one network printer.

8.Software Laboratory III

In Software Laboratory-III students mainly perform Operating Systems Design, Database Management Systems Applications assignments in Programming Laboratory I (Third Year Engineering) in first semester and in second semester Computer Laboratory–III (Final Year Engineering)

In first semester, Programming Laboratory I is a combination of programming assignments from two third year subjects Operating Systems Design, Database Management Systems Applications. Students learn to write programs at systems level operating system modules and problem solving using advanced databases techniques and tools. Develop the ability to handle and programming of storage devices and Database programming skill, Operating Systems programming & administrative skills with the help of software’s on fedora 20 environment provided in this lab.

In second semester, Computer Laboratory–III  is conducted here for  Final Year Computer Engineering  students. It is a combination of programming assignments from  Three Final year subjects  Web technology, Cloud computing, software design methodology & testing. It is designed to learn implementation problem solving abilities using Mathematical Modeling, to apply algorithmic strategies while solving problems, software design and testing in distributed, concurrent and parallel environments Students Learn different web technologies and cloud computing methodologies and also solve problems for multi-core or distributed, concurrent/Parallel environments

9.Software Laboratory IV

In first semester, Programming Laboratory-I  and Programming Laboratory-II is conducted for third year engineering students. In  Programming Laboratory -I it is  a combination of programming assignments from two third year subjects Operating Systems Design, Database Management Systems Applications. Students learn to write programs at systems level operating system modules and problem solving using advanced databases techniques and tools. Develop the ability to handle and programming of storage devices and Database programming skill, Operating Systems programming & administrative skills with the help of software’s on Fedora 20 environment provided in this laboratory and in  Programming Laboratory -II Third Year Computer Engineering, students perform programming in python, C++ for data communication, wireless sensor networks, multicore programming features. Learn computer forensics cyber applications and explore various CFA tools (Wireshark, Airdroid, Caine).

In second semester, Programming Laboratory-III and  Programming Laboratory-IV is conducted for third year engineering students. In  Programming Laboratory -III students  perform concurrent, parallel and distributed programming using Openmp, Open-mpi, sbcl, Lex/yacc, Nvidia GPU CUDA. Also Students learn Embedded Operating System Programming using Beaglebone Black Board. Students use Software Engineering concepts to draw UML diagrams using ArgoUML tool and in  Programming Laboratory -IV students perform socket programming, concurrent programming for networking and Digital Signal Processing in python, C++, Java, C . Students learn to set up , install , configure network  & use different networking protocols and tools. Learn to use SAN storage (Big Data)

10.Software Laboratory V

Software laboratory V is used by Final year students for their Project work. This laboratory consists of computer systems with relevant licensed software installed on it. All PC’s are provided with the Internet Facility (10 Mbps Link to the college). The machines are also equipped with UPS power back up and anti-virus software, as per the demand of the project group (typically consisting of 4 members). The necessary networking hardware and software are provided on need basis.

Most of the projects are sponsored by leading software companies like TCS, Persistent Systems, Sungard, KPIT Info Systems and C-DAC etc. This helps students to get an exposure to work on live problem and IT work environment.

There is a constant attempt made by the department to provide state of the art resources in the laboratory to meet the following demands of the project ideas requiring cutting edge technology.

In Semester I subjects conducted in this laboratory is Soft-skills for second year computer engineering students. Today, IT professionals work in a global setting with international clients and teams distributed geographically. Due to this, Soft Skills have gained importance. In second year, students get an opportunity to enhance their leadership qualities, communication, teamwork or presentation skills here in this lab. The computer based presentation and internet is used here along with other activities like Role play, Group discussions, Yoga, Game playing etc. to develop their soft skills.

In Semester II subject conducted is Seminar and Technical Communication for Third year engineering students. In Seminar and Technical Communication laboratory they perform literature survey, proof of concept, presentation and technical communication skills. Internet is used to surfing the information about topic of seminar.

11.Digital Electronics and Logic Design Laboratory

The subject conducted in  Digital Electronics Laboratory is Digital Electronics and Logic Design for Second year Computer Engineering students. In this laboratory students are introduced to digital design techniques and basic concepts of VLSI designing to second year students.
