The department has 8 laboratories. All the laboratories have desktops with latest configurations and internet connectivity. Each laboratory is equipped with LCD projector. Use of open-source operating system and other software is encouraged. The department has licensed software such as Windows 7, Microsoft Visual Studio, Rational Software Architect and Flash MX.
The department has around 250 computers. All computers are protected by antivirus and are maintained by a third party vendor.
Detailed Information about the laboratories
Fundamentals of Programming Laboratory
This laboratory caters to the needs of first year B Tech students. Students perform assignments in C language for laboratory of Fundamentals of Programming Language (FPL) in both the semesters. The main objective of FPL is to learn how to develop logic and C syntax.
In the first semester, the laboratory is used by second year students for learning Communication Skills. This course focuses on developing presentation and communication skills of students.
In the second semester, this laboratory is used as Seminar lab for third year students. Students search for their Seminar topics and learn LATEX for preparing Seminar report. This laboratory is also used by some batches of first year for FPL.
In the first semester, the laboratory is used to conduct the assignments for Object Oriented Programming Language by second year students. Third year students use this laboratory to carry out Computer Network assignments. This laboratory is also used for conducting Software Lab III assignments related to Information and Cyber Security by final year students.
In the second semester, this laboratory is used by second year students for Computer Graphics Laboratory (CGL). The main objective of this lab is to learn the various algorithms for generating and rendering graphical figures. The lab is also used by third year students for conducting Design and Analysis of Algorithms assignments which is a part of Software Lab II. The main objective of this lab is to learn various algorithmic design paradigms. Final year students also use this laboratory for conducting Advanced Computer Networks Laboratory.
The laboratory has networking devices available such as Cisco 1721 series routers, Cisco catalyst 2950, 24 ports switch etc. Students get a chance to explore these devices.
In the first semester, the laboratory is used to conduct the assignments of Programming Laboratory by second year students. This laboratory is also used by final year students for Machine Learning which is a part of Software Laboratory III.
In the second semester, it is used to conduct the laboratory course on Data Structures and Files by second year students, Systems Programming lab which is a part of Software Lab II by third year students and Information Storage and Retrieval assignments by final year students.
This laboratory is used by the final year students to complete the project work. One desktop is assigned to each project group at the beginning of the year. Any specific hardware requirement pertaining to a project is catered by the department. Whenever the students are free they can come and work for their project in the laboratory.
In the first semester, the laboratory is used to conduct the assignments for Employability Skill Development Laboratory. The assignments create awareness of recent professional trends that are followed in the market among students.
Software Lab V (Distributed systems) assignments are also conducted in this lab for final year students.
Second year students’ use this laboratory for carrying out assignments based on digital electronics and processor interfacing. Digital boards, 8086 microprocessor kits with supporting interfacing kits, 8051 micro-controller kits are available to the students. A group of two to three students gets a separate kit to perform the experiments.
In the first semester, Digital Electronics laboratory is conducted in the lab.
In the second semester Processor Interfacing laboratory is conducted in the lab.
In the first semester, this laboratory is used to conduct Database Management Systems Laboratory course for third year. Final year students, use this laboratory for working on Software Modelling and Designing assignments.
In second semester, some batches of first year use this laboratory for FPL. This laboratory is used for conducting Operating Systems assignments by some batches of third year. The final year students perform the assignments of Advanced Databases in this laboratory.
In the first semester, this laboratory is used to conduct the assignments of Web Enabled Technology by third year students. This laboratory is used by final year students to work on Software Modelling and Designing assignments.
In the second semester, the laboratory is used the conduct the laboratory courses on Operating Systems by third year students and Advanced Databases by final year students.
