1. IEEE Student Branch – Report on visit to ‘Gracenote’ studio

IEEE student branch arranged a visit to ‘Gracenote’ studio, Pune on 23rd Jan.2020. IEEE student members along with Prof.S.S.Vanarase visited studio. The studio is owned by Mr.Sandeep Patankar & Mrs. Sanjana Patankar. Mrs. Sanajana Patankar (Ms.ArunaPendse) is an alumni of Cummins College ,Instrumentation department (1996 batch)
The students got exposure on audio /video editing software, hardware such as equalizer, different types of microphones. They also got introduced to sound engineering, MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) and various multimedia tools.

2. ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) Cummins Student Chapter

ASME Student’s Section of Cummins College is established in September 2015. This is the first student section of its kind established in Savitribai Phule Pune University. ASME is unique and one of the broadest knowledge sharing platform in Mechanical Engineering discipline.

ASME provides many services to students of Mechanical and non-Mechanical Engineering. They include helping beginning students to understand the opportunities and responsibilities that they have and developing their interest in engineering through field trips and guest speakers.

ASME also provides its members with opportunities for student employment and for scholarships. Finally, the student section aids its graduating members to find jobs through resume books and career fairs.

Every year, 100+ new students’ registered for AFor AY: 2018-19, total 150+ students registered for ASME memberships, out of those 75 students have renewed their memberships. The membership is free for First Year students.

3. IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) Students’ Branch

IEEE is the world’s largest professional society dedicated to advancing technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity. IEEE student branch of Cummins College was established in 2002. IEEE student branch comes under IEEE Region 10, Asia Pacific Region and is attached to IEEE Pune section from 2010 after its formation. Previously the branch was attached to IEEE Bombay Section.

College encourages students to take IEEE student membership and the meritorious students are given 50% concession in registration fees from the year 2009. Various technical and non technical activities are conducted under IEEE student branch. Through these activities students get exposure to recent trends in the technological field as well as they get opportunity to work for the society which helps in overall development of students.

4.CSI student’s chapter

CSI is an active national organization which stands on the strength of technically sound professionals and students. CSI offers seminars, workshops and technical events on ongoing trends. On this wonderful platform students organize and display the organizational skills and interact with technocrats in a way giving them a versatile exposure. On 7th Aug 2008 Cummins College joined hands with CSI by starting its own students’ chapter. The inauguration of this occasion was done by the auspicious hands of Dr.Anand Deshpande founder and MD, Persistent Systems Ltd and also ex-president CSI-Pune chapter and Mr. Shekhar Sahastrabudhe, Director CSI Education. The keynote speech was given by Dr. Anand Deshpande, which highlighted the top 10 business and research areas in the field of Computer Science & Information Technology. He gave an insight into the various upcoming technologies such as Web 2.0, Cloud Computing and Mobile Commerce. The session was quite encouraging as it helped students to explore the myriad of opportunities in these booming areas. Around 80 students enrolled to CSI Student Branch. 15 faculty members from the department registered as life members of CSI.

5.THE IET (Institution of Engineering and Technology)

The department has a students’ chapter of THE IET (Institution of Engineering and Technology). Under this chapter a mini project competition is organized. The students in and around Pune participate in the competition to show their skills and talent.

Under the IET chapter, the department has also organized and conducted Local Present around The World (PATW). Here, the students portray their presentation skills and the winners get a chance to compete at national level.

6. MKSSS’s CCEW ACM- W Students Chapter, Pune

About ACM-W Chapter:

Cummins College of Engineering for Women, Pune entered into the new endeavour by forming the first ACM-Women (ACM-W) Chapter of Pune on October 6, 2012.

ACM-W Students Chapter, CCOEW is the first and only students’ chapter  for women in entire Pune region.

ACM-W aims to support, celebrate and advocate internationally for the full engagement of women in all aspects of the computing field. The focus of ACM-W is to inspire, motivate and encourage women for joining the field of computing and eventually sustaining and growing in the profession.  Through its various activities, the organization facilitates the progress of women in computing-related work and education.

This ACM- Student Chapter was inaugurated by Shri Vishwas Deval, Chairman, Management Committee, MKSSS and Dr. Madhuri Khambete, Principal, Cummins College of Engineering for Women.

Dr. Urvashi Rathod, Dr. Sheila Anand, Mr. Yogesh Dandawate, Mr. Shekhar Sahasrabudhe from ACM Pune , were present for this event. Mrs. Jaya Panwalkar, Director, nVIDIA graced this occasion and delivered a keynote speech. A plenary session by Dr. Manish Godse explained the careers in research and higher education.

As a part of ACMW Student Chapter activities, a talk on “Tiny steps in the field of Research” by Dr. Urvashi Rathod, Dr. Arati Dixit and Dr. Abhijat Vichare was organized for the students to introduce them to the world of research.

Every year ACMW student chapter organizes a technical event  for all computer department students and  invites registration for the next year memberships.

Membership Numbers :

More than 100  students registered under ACMW student chapter since 2012. For the past three years, ACMW CCEW has had 7 faculty members, and 32, 20, and 25 student members in 2018,19, and 2020 respectively.

Participation / Events conducted under ACMW student chapter CCEW :

ACMW members attended the conference organized by ACM India along with TCS, Pune on 6th April, 2013.

ACMW members attended the Workshop on ACM Cyber Security – 2014

ACMW members attended the 2012, 2014, 2015, 2018 Grace Hopper Celebrations (GHCI) conducted in Bengaluru.

In the past years, ACM has conducted multiple talks, coding competitions, and workshops. We conduct sessions of industry experts on various topics such as on “Banking” “Mind Hacks”, Machine learning” Natural language processing” “Operating systems”, “Applications of Statistics” etc, Alumni Talk on “ BE Project -Optgen & CFGLP tool”, Panel discussion on “How to build a strong career”, workshops such as “ Build your own website” for students.

We also conduct  a coding competition, “CodeIT” every year since 2018 for Second and third year students. This event is open to all year students of all colleges in Pune.

In year 2021, ACMW Regional event on “INNOVATION – A STEP TOWARDS WOMEN ENTERPRENEURSHIP” was conducted with PCCOEW, Pune, for students from all colleges. Under this event poster competition and blog writing competition was also conducted along with technical talks.
