About The Information Technology Department

Department Vision

Instill proficiency in information technology among women through quality education for the benefit of society.

Department Mission

  1. To provide cutting-edge technical knowledge to develop industry-ready women professionals.
  2. To nurture research attitude among students.
  3. To cultivate ethical practices and sense of societal responsibilities.
  4. To foster interpersonal and leadership skills through co-curricular and extracurricular activities to enable students for higher studies.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

Our graduates will:

  1. Pursue successful careers in Information Technology and follow professional ethics.
  2. Solve technological and multi-disciplinary problems.
  3. Pursue higher studies and inculcate lifelong learning.

Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs):

  1. Apply IT specific knowledge and techniques to develop IT based solutions for different application domains like Computer Networks, Artificial Intelligence, Data and Information Processing.
  2. Develop skills such as programming, designing, testing to build IT applications suitable to incorporate changing needs of different segments.

The Department of Information Technology (IT) was established in the year 1999 with an intake of 60. The department offers an undergraduate program of B.Tech (Information Technology). The program has become autonomous since 2016. Students’ intake capacity for the program is 120 from AY 2024-25. Twenty two batches have graduated from the department till date. Every batch that passes out each year has a passing percentage above 95%.

All the department class rooms and laboratories are well equipped with the latest configuration desktops. Each desktop has an internet facility available. Use of open-source operating systems and other software is encouraged. All classrooms and laboratories are equipped with Smartboards/LCD projectors as a teaching aid. In all, there are around 269 computers in the department.

The department has 12 teaching faculty members, 3 technical assistants and 5 non-teaching staff. Out of 12 teaching faculty members, 6 have Doctoral degree, 5 are pursuing Doctoral degree and remaining 1 is postgraduate. Faculty members have varied areas of specialization such as Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Information Security, Forensics, Blockchain, AR/VR, Information Retrieval, Text Mining, Computer Networks, and Music Retrieval.

Our students are placed in reputed companies such as Salesforce, Google, Microsoft, Cisco, Avaya, IBM, Barclays, Pubmatic, General Electric, Cummins India, Deloitte, Seagate, Citi, JPMorgans and Tata Technologies. On an average, 95-97% students are placed every year through Campus recruitment.

Some students pursue higher education at IITs, other engineering colleges and management colleges in India. A few students have pursued MS at Purdue University, USA through the MoU between the College and Purdue University. In addition to this, some students seek admission for MS in other universities abroad like University of California- Berkeley, Hult International Business School- Boston, Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School- Dublin, University of Melbourne- Australia.

Our distinguished alumnae represent a rich tapestry of achievements and roles, reflecting the diverse paths and profound impact of our graduates. Among them are leaders who have excelled as Software Engineers at Google and Apple, served as a Senior Member of Technical Staff at VMware, and thrived as a Sr. Business Analyst at Redstage, showcasing their expertise in technology and business. Additionally, alumnae hold roles such as a Network Consulting Engineer at Cisco, a Software Engineer II at Microsoft Azure, and a Product Owner at Clean Harbors, driving innovation and excellence in their domains. Moreover, our alumnae have made significant strides in leadership, including roles as Manager, Lead – Digital Customer Experience. In the academic sphere, some alumnae serve as the Program Director, Adjunct Professor, and Board Member. Beyond technical fields, notable alumnae include the Co-Founder of Traya, the Founder of reCharkha – The EcoSocial Tribe, and a Co-founder at Satianu – Essential Oils and therapy, each demonstrating leadership and making an impact across academia, non-profit, and entrepreneurial ventures

Our students have excelled in almost all areas by securing University ranks, paper- presentation awards, Hackathons, project competition awards as well as trophies in sports and cultural activities. Students have represented college in Chess at international level while in Badminton and Rope Mallakhamb at National Level. They are also winners of the Murthy Award for Best Performance in Sports. They have won trophies in cultural events like Purushottam Karandak and Firodiya. Students also bagged the NES Innovation Award for years 2020-21, 2021-22 and 22-23. Students have got international internships at NTU- Singapore, Volvo Cars- Sweden, University of Notre Dame- Spain. The department has fetched Best Class Award seven times and Best Department Award five times.

Laboratory Summary

The department has 9 laboratories. All the laboratories have desktops with latest configurations and internet connectivity. Each laboratory is equipped with a smartboard/LCD projector. Use of open-source operating systems and other software is encouraged. All the laboratories have Ubuntu 18.04 operating system while three laboratories have dedicated licensed Windows software as operating system. The department has around 300 computers. All the computers are protected by Seqrite antivirus.

This laboratory has 29 machines and 04 servers with following details

All laboratories are well illuminated and spacious. They have a setup of desktop and other devices to cater to a batch of maximum thirty students. There is enough space for the laboratory instructor to reach to individual student via appropriate commuting space. Air Conditioners are provided wherever required in the laboratories. The cleaning of the laboratories happens every day.

The Department of Information Technology has been consistently collaborating with renowned industry leaders to establish state-of-the-art laboratories that support innovation, hands-on learning, and cutting-edge research. These industry-sponsored labs are instrumental in bridging the gap between academia and industry, equipping students with relevant tools and exposure to emerging technologies such as Blockchain, Augmented & Virtual Reality (AR/VR), High Performance Computing, and Advanced Simulation Systems.

The industries supporting the laboratory are:
